This page lists services used in day-to-day operation of Kong Gateway and the versions of these services that have been tested by Kong. Using these services may be optional, or they may be required by Kong Gateway or certain plugins.

Unless otherwise noted, Kong supports the last two versions any third-party tool, plus the current managed version if available.

Third-party tools

Kong supports the following third-party tools for each given Kong Gateway release version.

Some third-party tools on this page don’t have a version number. These tools are managed services and Kong provides compatibility with the currently released version.

Data stores

Kong Gateway interacts with multiple data stores during normal operation.

The following stores have been tested by Kong.

PostgreSQL: 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, Amazon RDS, Amazon Aurora
Redis: 6, 7, AWS Elasticache
Kafka: 3.3, 3.2, Confluent Cloud

Vaults

Kong Gateway allows you to store secret values in external vaults.

The following vaults and versions have been tested by Kong.

HashiCorp Vault
AWS Secrets Manager
Microsoft Azure Key Vault
Google Cloud Secret Manager

Log Providers

Kong Gateway has been tested against the following log providers.

Splunk
Datadog
Loggly

Metrics

Kong Gateway has been tested against the following metrics providers.

Prometheus: 2.4, 2.37
statsd: 0.9
OpenTelemetry
Zipkin: 2.23, 2.22

S3 Compatible APIs

Any S3 compatible API is available for use when working with remote file storage.

The following have been tested by Kong.

Service Mesh

Kong Gateway has been tested against the following Service Mesh versions.

Kong Mesh: 2.0
Istio: 1.16, 1.15, 1.14

Supported browsers

Kong supports the two latest stable versions and any extended support versions of the following “evergreen” desktop browsers:

Chrome, Firefox, and Edge release a new major version every 4 weeks, with extended support available for 8 weeks.
